Sharp-Crested Weir Discharge Coefficient

Abstract: Weirs are useful and common devices in flow measurements. The essential parameter of eachweir is to determine the flow coefficient. In this study, laboratory measurements of the water surface profile,approach flow velocity and flow rate carried out over three different rectangular sharp-crested weirsmounted in a flume. The flow was then numerically simulated by the CFD commercial software Fluent v.6.2 in several stages. Results show that Fluent can model the flow over this type of weirs preciously. Thenthe effect of three dimensionless parameters of weir height (H/W), Froude number and Reynolds number onweir discharge coefficient is investigated using experimental and numerical data. For a specific value ofthese parameters, discharge coefficient is tending to the fixed value of 0.7.
Interaction between Cannabinoidergic System and H2 Receptors in CA1 Region upon Anxiety-like Behaviors in Hole-Board Test

Abstract: Background and Objectives: Cannabinoids produce a wide array of effects on different species and interact with different neurotransmitter systems in the brain. In the present study, the effects of histaminergic and cannabinoidregic systems as well as their interactions on anxiety-related behaviors were examined on mice. Methods: In this study, at first mice were anesthetized with intra-peritoneal injection of ketamine hydrochloride and xylazine. They were then placed in a stereotaxic apparatus. Two stainless-steel cannuale were placed one mm above CA1 regions of the dorsal hippocampus. After that, seventeen groups of animals were tested with hole board apparatus for measuring anxiety behavior. For the statistical analysis, One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Dunnett's test were used. Results: Intra-CA1 injection of WIN55,212-2 (0.1, 0.5μg/mice) did not modify anxiety-related behaviors in mice. But administration of AM251 (25 and 50ng/mice), histamine or ranitidine (5μg/mice) induced anxiogenic-like response. Also, co-administration of WIN55, 212-2 with histaminergic agents, decreased the anxiogenic-like response of histamine, but not that of ranitidine. Co-administration of an ineffective dose of AM251 with histaminergic drugs did not alter the response induced by these drugs. In all the experiments, locomotor activity was not significantly changed. Conclusion: These results showed that there may be a partial interaction between the cannabinoidergic and the histaminergic systems of the dorsal hippocampus on anxiety-like behaviors.
Quality Attributes of Soy-pasta During Storage Period

Abstract: The influence of Full Fat Soy Flour (FFSF) and different extrusion conditions on the acidity content and color characteristics of spaghetti during 7-month storage were evaluated. The spaghetti was produced by laboratory pasta maker and was dried at 50oC. Treatments were packed in polyethylene bags and were kept in room temperature during storage. Addition of FFSF and extrusion processing conditions influenced the acidity content of spaghetti. This enrichment resulted in significant increases (p<0.05) in the acidity during storage. On the other hand, color characteristics of dry spaghetti showed significant changes after seven months of storage. So, the shelf life of this new product was lesser than traditional spaghetti.
Detection of Point Sound Source Using Beamforming Technique in Complex Environments  [PDF]

Abstract: Detection and localization of acoustic events in an environment are important to protect the military and civilian installations. While there are finite paths of wave propagation in simple or low reverberant environments, in complex environments (e.g. a complex urban environment) obstacles such as terrain or buildings introduce multipath propagations, reflections and diffractions which make source localization challenging. Therefore, numeric results of simulated models (simplified and Fort Benning urban models) of 3D complex environments can highly help in real applications. Some of the conventional beamformer algorithms have been used in order to localize point sound source. Analyzing results shows that MRCB beamformer has better performance than others in this issue and its accuracy superiority is more than 3 m in simplified urban model and 5 m in Fort Benning urban model with respect to the SOC. Moreover, due to possible uncertainties between the numerical model and the actual environment such as squall effect, temperature gradient etc., sensitivity of the beamformers to temperature gradient is investigated which shows higher robustness of SOC beamformer than the MRCB beamformer. According to the results, due to gradient temperature uncertainty the accuracy degradation of the SOC is about 1m while in MRCB it alters from 0.5 m to 20 m approximately at all SNRs. COMSOL Multiphysics has been used to numerically simulate the environment of wave propagation.

A New Method for Recognition of Arcing Faults in Transmission Lines using Wavelet Transform and Correlation Coefficient

Abstract: In this paper a novel method based on discrete wavelet transform and correlation coefficient is presented for distinguishing between arcing and permanent faults. The algorithm includes offline and online processing. In the offline, discrete wavelet transform is used to decompose typical faulted phase voltage waveforms during arcing faults. An index is then defined and computed. The index is based on the normalised energy of detail coefficients at resolution levels 1 to 14. The online processing consists of capturing the faulted phase voltage waveform using a 20 kHz sampling rate, and decomposing it by db4. Finally, arcing faults are distinguished from permanent faults based on correlation coefficient of the computed index of the pre-stored typical arcing faults and a recorded indistinct signal. The effectiveness of the approach has been tested for numerous arcing and permanent fault conditions on a transmission line using the Electromagnetic transient Program (EMTP) software tool. The simulation results show the capability of the proposed method in distinguishing between arcing faults from permanent faults.
Acoustic Reflex Measurements in Normal, Cochlear, and Retrocochlear Lesions -Part1

Abstract: The cut off points of 90th percentile of acoustic reflex thresholds were determined in the normal and sensory hearing loss.All subjects had measurable hearing(ANSI-1969≤110 dBHL) in three frequencies of 500,1000 and 2000Hz.While hearing loss was more than 55dB, The cut off point was higher in studies that NR responses was included.In cases that hearing loss was less than 75dB, 90th percentile can be used in diganosis of retrochochlear lesions.Since Acoustic reflexes are absent in both mentioned pathologies in greater amount of hearing loss,It would be less efficient in diffrential diganisis of cochlear and retrochochlear lesions to use acoustic reflex thresholds under the mentioned circumstances.

Abstract: This paper presents a detailed performance analysis of adaptive downlink resource allocation based on users' instantaneous channel responses using power minimization (PM) and bandwidth constrained power minimization (BCPM) strategies. This study shows that, in cellular systems, where interference is a dominant factor, the link outage performance of a resource allocation strategy varies significantly depending on the user channel parameters. In particular, both analytical and simulation results indicate that the PM strategy outperforms BCPM in a mild shadowing environment. However, in severe shadowing conditions, this trend is reversed. This assessment holds true for both flat and frequency-selective fading.
